What Past Attendees are Saying!

Orenda is a beautiful space with breathtaking views of the mountains, but it is the people that made the retreat so memorable. After practicing a Honor Pennington for nearly 5 years, I came away from the retreat with a renewed and deepened sense of family and connection. The retreat provided a respite from the everyday, and the chance to share time and break bread with so many open-hearted people. I left feeling peaceful and refreshed.

- Brenda C

We had an amazing 4 days at the Honor Yoga Retreat. The setting was beautiful, the retreat house was incredible and comfortable. The company was fun and the Honor Yoga staff couldn't be better. Thank you for a revitalizing and stimulating time.

-Peter M

Thank you Mare and Pennington Honor Yoga for offering such a beautiful gateway for like-minded souls to convene and share away from all the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives. The Yoga Retreat at Orenda provided just the restorative respite and human connection that my spirit craved. The food was delicious and nourishing and eating family style with good ``old-fashioned`` conversation was nourishing as well. Christine and Charity, our Yoga teachers, led us in such meaningful classes with the Catskill mountains as a backdrop and we all enjoyed David the massage fairy who would drop in at the end of class and surprise us :). Good feelings abounded and I took away such nuggets to carry me until the next retreat. Much gratitude.

About Cherilyn

Cherilyn Hopkins, RYT-200

Yoga has been both a best friend and a tool of transformation for Cherilyn, pushing her outside of her comfort zone enough to see things from different, new perspectives.

In 2012 at a low point in her life, she discovered Yin Yoga, during a random home practice. It opened her up in new and profound ways to the art of Stillness and Surrender. Quickly, she was guided to complete Teacher Training.

Cherilyn loves sharing this practice of quiet power in community. She created Yin Within Essential in 2014 sharing practices at various studios. She enjoys using aromatherapy in her classes to help initiate this gentle unfolding and moving inward.

She has studied and completed Yin Yoga 1, 2 and 3 modules with Biff Mithoefer. Cherilyn completed Reiki 1 and 2 with Linda Eyrich and 200 hour Hatha Yoga training with Delia Quigley and Denise Kay at Stillpoint Yoga in Blairstown in 2015. In August of 2018, she became the manager of Honor Yoga Washington, holding space for Yoga, Aerial and Meditation practices.

About Betsy

This yoga journey started for me like it has for many… just looking to move, the asana part. However, that quickly changed as I practiced more frequently. At one point I was overwhelmed by a feeling to deepen my practice by taking a teacher training, not even sure at that time that I want to teach. That decision was transformational. Continuing to yearn for knowledge, more trainings have led me to become a RYT 500 with specialty certifications; restorative yoga, trauma-informed yoga, yoga for anxiety, aerial yoga, yin yoga, and mindfulness. Being the perpetual student allows me to offer more to students. I enjoy teaching all students regardless of ability or reason for being in the class. I have had the opportunity to teach diverse populations such as trauma survivors, foster youth, at-risk juveniles and adults, as well as high school sports teams, corporate wellness programs, and in traditional yoga studios. One of the most memorable moments was when a foster youth in my Bliss Yoga program stated “ I have never felt this way before, peaceful”… now that is yoga working its magic.

About Carolyn

Carolyn Chaiko began her yoga journey with Restorative Yoga many years ago. Carolyn was able to find an oasis of peace, stillness, calm, and healing through Restorative Yoga. Although she has since expanded her personal yoga practice to include a variety of yoga styles, Restorative will always remain Carolyn’s first yoga love.

Profoundly impressed with the positive healing benefits yoga brought to her own life, Carolyn was inspired to share this practice. She is a proud graduate of Honor Yoga’s 200 hour teacher training. She completed Restorative Yoga advanced trainings with Gisele Mogan.

Carolyn’s classes provide her restorative students with body alignment guidance, thoughtful modifications, breath awareness, as well as a calming environment.

About Gioia

“Embrace the Wobble!” “Smile!”
If you have been in Gioia’s class you have heard this before.
She believes that no matter what your age, conditioning, injuries, or limitations you can still enjoy the benefit, peace and joy that movement through yoga has to offer.
Gioia Fumo has been inspiring others to move in a mindful way for decades, way back to the days of thongs and leg warmers.
Gioia found peace, strength and balance on her mat from a regular yoga practice at a time of personal turmoil and change in her life. Yoga beacame the perfect compliment to her work in fitness as a Pilates and group fitness instructor.
She loved being a student once again, but it took the encouragement of the loving yogis around her to continue her journey to become a yoga teacher. She brings her years of experience and diverse training to her teaching.
While Gioia teaches all types of yoga she specializes in Chair, Gentle and Therapeutics as it is her calling to make yoga accessible to all.
