Trauma Informed Yoga has foundations in trauma theory, attachment theory, and neuroscience as well as deep roots in yoga. At the moment of trauma our arousal system (sympathetic and parasympathetic) is impacted moving us into hyperarousal or hypoarousal. The imprint of trauma can lead to depression and/or anxiety. Trauma sensitive yoga aims to cultivate awareness of the mind-body connection and build self-regulation skills to address the ways in which trauma is held in the body.
Day 1 will explore foundations of trauma sensitive yoga and
Day 2 will focus on yoga for depression and anxiety. You are welcome to take one or both days.
Training will be didactic and experiential so come prepared to practice. You do not need to be a yoga teacher to participate.
This training will teach you to blend elements of these ancient and modern modalities to create a unique workout suitable for everyone. Level 2: Deepening Practices With-Yin: The second of a 2-part series, this 12-hour intensive training, for Yin practitioners and Teachers, is geared to discuss the more internal aspects of a Yin Practice. The basic foundation of the poses will not be covered with the same amount of detail as Level 1. Yin yoga practice encourages balance in the physical, mental and emotional and realms. The long-held floor postures coax a movement of Chi throughout the body setting the ground for deep relaxation or a meditative state.

This training will explore principles of the polyvagal theory related to our autonomic nervous system which neuroscience is showing significantly contributes to our experience of depression and anxiety. We will explore yogic and psychological principles to help people shift their energy level and associated thoughts and behaviors to bring them into a more regulated nervous system and rewire one’s brain to increase self-compassion and contentment. A variety of techniques such as yin and yang movement, behavioral activation, mindfulness meditation, breathing, radical acceptance and self-compassion will be reviewed which makes yoga a complementary approach to therapy.
