In English “the Pure Life”, is a local greeting used in Costa Rica to express eternal optimism with all of the incredible beauty in this life no matter what your current circumstance. Come join us as we travel to Santa Teresa, Costa Rica and begin to connect with the Pura Vida that resides in you! On this retreat we will journey to the culturally and environmentally rich Nicoya Peninsula, which is also one of the earth’s 5 “blue zones” (one of the 5 locations in the world designated as the happiest, healthiest, and longest living communities in the world!) to practice yoga right on the incredible beaches, indulge in deliciously prepared and healthy meals, ride horseback through the jungles and along the coast, take a boat trip to some of the most pristine reefs for breathtaking snorkeling, dive into crystal clear waterfalls, and witness diverse wildlife including howler and white faced monkeys right in the forest canopy above!

Meet Your Hosts

Cathy and Evan Madeo are co-owners Honor Yoga Princeton, a yoga studio in Princeton, NJ where they teach in the style of vinyasa yoga. Both have been practicing yoga for over two decades. When they met in Los Angeles in 2002, they quickly discovered they practiced yoga at the same yoga studio! Since then, they’ve dedicated their lives to the practice and teaching of yoga and they can’t wait to retreat with you! They plan to deliver you their fun, yet super challenging vinyasa yoga classes daily, as well as balance your vacation yoga with gentle morning yoga, meditation, yin and more.

More about Cathy: Cathy Madeo is an E-RYT 500-Hour RYT, YACEP certified yoga instructor. Her challenging vinyasa yoga classes infuse alignment, core work and create space for exploration. She began her teaching career in Los Angeles in 2004. Cathy spends her time outside of teaching regular yoga classes leading workshops specializing in core work, arm balances, and inversions. She leads 200 RYT teacher trainings and continuing-ed courses at Honor Yoga Princeton. In 2018 Cathy founded Activate Your Core, her signature core style that focuses on core drills to deepen the yoga asanas. She is an Infinity Strap teacher and an ambassador for Half Moon Yoga, My Mantra Style, and Fré Skincare. More about Evan: Evan Madeo is a E-RYT 200-Hour certified yoga instructor. He weaves meditation and philosophy into his classes, with a focus of bringing freedom of body, mind, and spirit through the practice of yoga. Evan is also a 550-Hour Certified Massage Therapist, and a Reiki Master in the Usui Shiki Ryoho Tradition and Lineage, and infuses these healing arts into his trainings, workshops, and yoga classes. Meet the Retreat Team

Katie Ribsam: Katie is a runner, rock climber, snowboarder and lover of the outdoors who has spent well over half of her life as a practicing yogi. Through yoga, Katie has not only been able to deepen her own sense of self-awareness but has also been able to maintain the focus, discipline, flexibility and agility necessary to enjoy the outdoors through the activities she loves. With her main love being mama earth and with over a decade of environmental education experience under her belt, Katie has developed an expertise in the up-and-coming Eco-Yoga field. Beach Yoga, SUP Yoga, Yoga Hikes, Yoga Retreats- you name it- connecting students to the environment through yoga is Katie’s specialty.
